Gay adoption is known as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, and Transgender (LGBT) adoptions. Several countries around the world allow LGBT couples to adopt, however, in the United States many states restrict LGBT couples, but not individuals, from pursuing adoption.

Debate

In the United States, same-sex adoption is a topic of debate among politicians and religious officials. However, many organizations, such as the American Psychology Association and The American Medical Association, have issued statements in support of LGBT rights to adopt children, in addition to denouncing social prejudice.

Cons

Reasons against gay adoption are: Children are exposed to only one sexuality, the United States is a Christian country and children need role models (especially boys). if a boy is raised by two women, they will not succeed, according to The First Post article about gay adoption.

Pros

According to The First Post, same-sex relationships are more stable than heterosexual. Also, no studies have found a parents’ sexual orientation to have caused any disadvantage to their adopted children.

Support

There are many support groups that have been established to assist and support LGBT adoptions. These groups offer assistance to those seeking same-sex adoptions. Some of the groups are the Orlando Same-Sex parenting group and the New York Same-Sex parenting group.
